WTF is correct.

Ah, hell with making this a draft.
If you read this post further but have not yet read Mockingjay, well, then I don't frankly give a hoot.
If you ruin the book for yourself, that's your problem.
I mean, if you want to know what happens so desperately, go on Wikipedia. At least Wikipedia isn't overly opinionated.

Please note that I've had 48 hours since reading to cool down. This will be a very relaxed rant.

DUDE.
HOW COULD IT BE PEETA?
WHY NOT GALE? WHY. NOT. GALE?

I'd have preferred any other scenario. Most preferable: Peeta dies. Gale and Katniss end up together.
Other suitable outcomes:
Neither die, and Katniss rejects Peeta and ends up with Gale.
Neither die, and Katniss has difficulty choosing but ultimately ends up with Gale.
I'd even take:
Gale and Katniss realize they don't love each other, remain friends, and Katniss ends up with Peeta.
Gale dies, Katniss is heartbroken, and has to settle for Peeta while still hanging on to Gale.
ANYTHING other than Gale just being gone.
ANYTHING.
What happens to him? Why can't they remain friends? Why can't Katniss suck it up, realize that Prim had it coming, and pick Gale???

Seriously. Peeta and Katniss had absolutely no relationship. She hardly knew him in the first one. In the second one, they just had to keep up their "star-crossed lovers" role for cameras and through that Katniss grows dependent on him. He's not even in half of the third one, and in the other half he's trying to kill her. The only thing positive Katniss can ever say about him is that he was the boy with the bread. Do you see love in any of that?
Whereas Gale actually has a personality, and a reason to be with Katniss. He took care of her and her family. He was her best friend. They knew everything about each other. How much of each other do Katniss and Peeta know? Huh? HUH?

Seriously.
Seriously.
Seriouslyseriouslyseriously.

And that isn't the only thing I had a problem with. It was all good until the last sixty pages. And then... Finnick died. Finnick. I actually didn't realize that he was dead until the following chapter, and I had to go back, and then. Oh my god, I couldn't believe it.
WHY FINNICK?
Prim, I understand.
But Finnick?
Why couldn't Annie and Finnick just be happy for once?
If there was one couple in the entire book that should've had a happy ending, it was Fannie.
And their son. It's just so awful for the kid to be born after his father's death.
I mean, COME ON.
Why does Suzanne Collins have to be so cruel?
She wouldn't let Luxa and Gregor be together. There goes my childhood. MUST YOU TAKE AWAY MY ADOLECENCE AS WELL?

And with the Peeta and Katniss babies. Come. On. They have children to symbolize hope for the future? I wouldn't even have wanted Gale and Katniss to have kids... had they ended up together.

I cried when I finished it. I was sitting there with tears rolling down my cheek and shaking my fist in the air, all the while screaming "Why?! WHY?"

I realize that there shouldn't be happy endings in which no one dies and they all live merrily forever after.
That's why I let it slide with Prim.
But Finnick?
And what the hell does Gale do?
Gale, oh Gale.
And then she tries to make everything peachy-dandy with the kids.
No.
Just no.
OH MY GOD, GALE.

So. Yeah.
